Hua Hin Municipality Receives ASEAN Award for Clean Air Efforts
Hua Hin Municipality has been recognized with a regional environmental honor, receiving the ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities Award for Clean Air at a ceremony held in Langkawi, Malaysia, on September 3, 2025.
The award was presented as part of the 6th ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities (ESC) Award and the 5th Certificates of Recognition (COR) Ceremony. Organized by Malaysia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the two-day event from September 2 to 3 gathered local government representatives from across Southeast Asia to highlight best practices in sustainable urban management.

According to the Department of Climate Change and Environment, Hua Hin Municipality was selected following a review process by the ASEAN Working Group on Environmentally Sustainable Cities during its 23rd meeting. The city was recognized under the competitive category for its initiatives to improve and maintain air quality. Other Thai municipalities were also honored: Thung Song Municipality in Nakhon Si Thammarat received an award for Green Land and Biodiversity, while Pak Kret Municipality in Nonthaburi was acknowledged under the City Nominations category.

The ASEAN awards aim to encourage cities in member states to implement sustainable development strategies and to showcase examples of environmental governance that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program also fosters exchange of experiences among local governments on issues such as clean air, waste management, and biodiversity conservation.
At the Langkawi event, local authorities from participating cities shared their approaches to community participation, equal access to environmental initiatives, and strategies to promote sustainable urban growth. The recognition of Hua Hin Municipality underscores Thailand’s continued engagement in ASEAN’s collective efforts to advance environmental sustainability at both national and regional levels.
The Hua Hin delegation to the ceremony included Deputy Mayor Atichart Chaisri, Deputy Permanent Secretary Likit Nunin, and other senior officials from the municipal public health and environment division. The Thai contingent was led by Oranuch Lorpensri, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, alongside senior officials from the Department of Climate Change and Environment.
