Whats on in Hua Hin

The Hua Hin Chinese New Year celebration will take place on Monday, 16 February, starting at 4.00pm, with Hua Hin City Municipality confirming a full programme of traditional processions, performances and cultural activities.

Officials said preparations are now complete for this year’s festival, which is being organised to preserve and promote Chinese cultural traditions in the city. The event marks the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac, a year associated with progress, energy and positive change.

The celebrations will begin at 4.00pm with a procession featuring the God of Wealth (Chai Sing Yeh), Chao Pho Sombun and Chao Mae Thapthim. The parade will include a golden dragon and silver and golden lion dance troupes.

The procession will start in front of the Hua Hin City Municipality Office, travel along Phetkasem Road, circle Chat Chai Market and finish at Phon Kingphet Park. Residents and business owners are encouraged to set up offering tables along the route to welcome the deities and seek good fortune and prosperity for the year ahead.

From 6.30pm, the official opening ceremony will be held at The Square at Bluport Hua Hin. The evening programme will include a “Little A-Tee and Ah-Muay” children’s contest and performances by students from schools under Hua Hin City Municipality.

A highlight of the Hua Hin Chinese New Year celebration will be a giant wok of auspicious stir-fried noodles, prepared and distributed free of charge to visitors. The event will conclude with further dragon and lion dance performances.

Hua Hin City Municipality has invited both residents and tourists to attend the Hua Hin Chinese New Year celebration and take part in the festivities.
